How to Organise Your Shed for Maximum Storage

Clear out and sort first

Empty the shed, then sort everything into keep, donate and discard. You'll be amazed how much you've been storing that you don't need. Organising less stuff is always easier.

Use the walls

Floor space is precious, so go vertical. Wall hooks, pegboards and rails hold tools, hoses and equipment off the floor and in plain sight. Hanging things up is the single biggest space-saver in a shed.

Add shelving

Shelves turn empty wall height into usable storage for boxes, pots and supplies. Put heavy items low and lighter ones high, and use clear bins or labels so you can find things fast.

Store by zones

  • Garden zone: tools, soil, pots together.
  • DIY zone: hardware, paint, power tools.
  • Sports/bikes zone: bulky gear in one spot.

Zones make it obvious where everything belongs — and keep it that way.

Use the ceiling and door

Overhead racks hold light, rarely-used items, and the back of the door is perfect for hooks and small organisers. Use every surface.

Keep the floor clear

A clear floor means you can actually get in, reach things, and sweep up. Hang or shelve as much as possible, and keep only large items on the ground.

Protect from damp

Keep items off the floor on shelves or pallets, especially in the monsoon, and add a moisture absorber to fight damp. Dry storage keeps tools rust-free and gear fresh.
